Woman upset by fiancé’s ‘stubborn’ demand they name baby after Marvel character

When parents are picking a name for their unborn child, it can cause a lot of issues, as they both have to find common ground.

And it can definitely be sad when the other person doesn’t agree with your taste in names.

However, if they don’t like a name you’ve picked, you can’t force it upon them and instead have to try again and find something else you both think is right.

One mum-to-be claims to be finding this process rather difficult as her fiancé is rejecting every single name she suggests.

In a post on Reddit’s Am I The A**hole forum, the unnamed woman explained that he doesn’t like any of her choices and is demanding they name the baby after a Marvel comic book character.

The expectant mother says they are having a girl and that her surname will be Frost.

Her partner, as a result, thought it would be a great idea to call her Emma – like the X-Men character Emma Frost.

Initially, the mum didn’t think much of the name Emma Frost until she Googled it and discovered the comics.

She decided she didn’t want her child named after a fictional character, but her fiance just won’t let it go and for the last month has been insisting their baby will be named Emma.

The Reddit post reads: “My fiancé’s last name is Frost and the baby is a girl. He brought up the name Emma for her before and I thought nothing of it and said I don’t really like the name but he seemed to push and say it’s a perfect match for Frost.

“I got suspicious and googled Emma Frost only to find she’s a comic book character. I told him I didn’t like how he didn’t tell me what the name was from and didn’t want to name my daughter after a comic book character.

“He got mad and went on a rant about how she’s his daughter too and he gets a say. I told him no way that name is gonna fly.

“This argument was a month ago and he has rejected every name I’ve suggested and told me he won’t agree to anything other than Emma. I think at this point he’s doing it just because he’s stubborn.”

She goes on to add that her partner’s brother had since got involved in the argument, messaging her to say that Emma Frost “isn’t a bad character” and that she is being an “a**hole” for not considering the name.

Many people responded to the post and were quick to reassure the mum-to-be that she wasn’t in the wrong.

One person replied: “Not the a**hole. He shouldn’t be hoping to give his own daughter the name of one of the most overly and overtly sexualized superheroes ever.”

Another said: “Her name will open her up to a lot of inappropriate teasing from peers, and eyebrow raises from other adults that are familiar with the character.”

A third wrote: “It’s really disturbing that a father wants to name his daughter that. Hopefully he just thinks it’s cool and it’s not something more creepy and sinister.

“Still, it at the very least shows he views the naming of his child, something that will impact her for the rest of her life, as a joke, and that’s kinda concerning.”
